A long-term photographic dialogue with Portofino, shaped by time, observation and different artistic perspectives.
Each year, we invite a photographer to spend time in Portofino — not as a visitor, but as an observer. The programme is called Portofino Residencies, and it was developed in collaboration with PhMuseum, one of the leading platforms for contemporary photography.
A residency is something more than a visit. It takes time to truly understand a place: its rhythms, its light, and the people who inhabit it. Out of that experience comes a body of work that does not simply document, but interprets.
Portofino Residencies was born from the belief that these places deserve a slower gaze.

Over the years, the programme has welcomed artists with very different practices. Alejandro Chaskielberg worked on the beauty of Portofino’s night landscapes; Piergiorgio Sorgetti photographed the rhythm of summer on the Riviera; Martina Giammaria reimagined the territory through digital compositions; and Carolina Pimenta explored the tension between luxury tourism and everyday life along the coast.
Each residency offers a different way of looking at the same landscape. Some projects are intimate, some contemplative, others more sharply observational, but all are rooted in a close relationship with place.
Portofino Residencies continues to grow from that same conviction. We support artists whose work pays close attention to territory, memory and time, creating new perspectives on a landscape that has long been part of our story.
